SB-XLIII had everything you wanted in a SB! Two teams literally fighting it out the entire game with two of the most MIRACULOUS plays in the SB era by my Steelers.
I am a Steelers fan and saw this live. I remember starting to feel like the game was getting away from the Steelers, and then this happened, I couldn’t believe it. Best play/moment in football, imo.
I’m pretty sure that when Keenan started on SNL it was still called “The NFL Championship Game.” They coined the term “Super Bowl” the same year that Keenan was promoted from “featured player” to the main cast.
I really felt bad because I wanted Fitzgerald to get himself a ring because he deserves it.
But my God, those 2 HUGE plays from Harrison and Holmes? That’s some storybook heroics right there. Harrison, who was almost not even in the league, but was given the chance by Tomlin and the Steelers, and Holmes? Somehow he hung on to the catch AND got both tippy toes inbounds… Can’t deny that was incredible.
The big plus was that it was John Madden’s last Superbowl as an announcer. It was just special.
As a Steelers fan for the last 20 years, I didn’t exactly feel bad, but Fitzgerald is a class act and one hell of an athlete. Very similar to my goat Troy in temperament on and off the field. I remember going to my parent’s friend’s super bowl party as a junior in HS, and I was the only one rooting for the Steelers. Everyone wanted Kurt Warner to get a ring with AZ before retirement.
Still the best superbowl play I’ve seen ..followed by Holmes catch toe tap throw by Ben
